BELL acted as the General Contractor for this extension. BELL provided team meetings, subcontractor meetings, Safety Plans, railroad interface, traffic control, scheduling, sequencing, construction change directives and proposal requests, submittal review and processing, request for information validation, updates, and quality control. The extension bridge is multi-modal, accommodating not just vehicles but also bicyclists and pedestrians. It runs six blocks from 8th Avenue South to 2nd Avenue South, providing a critical link between the booming Gulch district and the South Broadway (SoBro) community. It also provides easier access for downtown drivers to major transportation arteries such as I-40. The project consisted of the construction of a new four-lane roadway and bridge along the existing Division Street and Ash Street alignments from 8th Avenue South to Lafayette Street. Roadway elements include new traffic signals, street lighting, sidewalks, separated bicycle lanes, and landscaped areas. The bridge was constructed across active CSX railroad tracks.
