Located in the Historic Edgefield district of Nashville, City View Lofts brought “loft living” to an area filled with Victorian-style homes. The three-story building features an arts and crafts façade and a high level of architectural detail that blends with the area. Inside, there are 30 units with 12 different layouts ranging from 800-SF studios to 1600-SF two-bedroom apartments. The units feature spacious, open floor plans with up to 10-foot high ceilings, dramatic two-story arched windows, stained concrete floors and exposed ductwork, along with sophisticated interior finishes like stainless steel appliances, contemporary wood cabinetry, hard-surface countertops, gas fireplaces, and private balconies with views of downtown Nashville.

Because the site of the project is in a National Register Historic District and a Historic Zoning District, the design team had to make minor changes to the construction plans (amended by the Metropolitan Historic Zoning Commission) in order to obtain a preservation permit from them before a building permit could be issued for construction.

Minor changes were made to the construction plans by the design team, as amended by the Metropolitan Historical Zoning Commission, and the preservation permit was issued.

City View Lofts was a complex project located on a tight residential site within an historic district. In addition to the complexities of working on a small site, a very high level of interest and scrutiny was exhibited by neighborhood residents throughout the design and construction of the condominiums. Bell Construction did an excellent job of both working with the neighbors during construction and of protecting the historic elements located on the site.

Although the project incorporated a relatively standard and inexpensive wood stick framing system, the design was highly detailed and complex. We found Bell Construction to be both highly professional and efficient in providing the time and expertise necessary to successfully construct this project. Bell did an outstanding job of executing the design intent of the Owner and Architect and has completed a project that blends well with the neighborhood and will be an asset to the Edgefield community for many years.
