Bell & Associates was selected as the Construction Manager at Risk for the Metro Detention Facility, Leed Silver-New 256 Man Housing Unit through a proposal Process to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office. The 36,000 sq ft housing unit was a stand alone addition to the overall detention facility; therefor, security during construction was of the utmost concern. Bell & Associates worked closely with Davidson County Sheriff’s Office and Corrections Corporation of America, who operates the entire facility to ensure there was no breach of security at any point during construction. The new unit is the facility’s first “Green” building and was Designed to achieve Leed Silver Certification. The New Housing Unit includes sustainable aspects such as a geothermal heat exchanger to help heat and cool the building and a photovoltaic solar panel electrical generation system for lighting and electrical needs. The housing unit was constructed of exterior structural precast concrete panels and cast-inplace interior walls and floor slabs. The new unit added 64 double occupancy cells, which included two ADA cells and two isolation cells. Also 18 group cells which included two ADA cells.
