Corrections Corporation of America has selected the design-build team of Bell & Associates Construction and HOK to design and construct additions and renovations to their facility in McRae, Georgia. The $15 million project includes a new housing dormitory; segregation expansion; new commissary, classrooms, and chapel; expansion of inmate visitation; expansion and renovation of inmate intake; kitchen renovation; and a new non-lethal electrified fence.

This project is scheduled to begin this month and will wrap up October 2012. The existing facility will remain in operation during construction. McRae Correctional Facility has been open since 2002 and currently has a capacity of 1800 inmates. The expansion will increase that number by 454 beds.

Bell & Associates Construction of Brentwood, TN, is excited to announce the promotion of three Project Engineers. Michael Bouldin, Tyler Powell and Eric Pyle have been promoted to Project Manager, after each has served as Project Engineers for the firm for more than three years each. Bouldin is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and joined Bell in 2007, Powell is a graduate of Murray State University and joined Bell in 2008, and Pyle is also a graduate of Murray State University and joined Bell in 2007. Bell & Associates Construction of Brentwood, Tenn., is sad to announce the passing of C. Ray Bell, founder of Ray Bell Construction Company. Mr. Bell died Saturday, September 4, 2010, in Baptist Hospital of heart failure.

Born in Scottsboro, Alabama, March 28, 1941, to William Preston and Pearl Bell, and raised in Shelbyville, Tennessee, Ray followed in his father’s footsteps and started a career in construction after graduating from the University of the South with an honors degree in English in 1963. Bell & Associates Construction has been awarded the new 256 bed, 36,000 square foot housing unit for Metropolitan Nashville Davidson County at the existing Harding Place correctional facility. Bell & Associates was chosen through an RFQ/RFP process and was awarded the Construction Manager at Risk project in November of 2009.

Bell is providing pre-construction services as part of their contract including value analysis, constructability review, construction budgeting cost reviews, schedule analysis, and LEED certification and credit reviews.
