Nashville Mayor Karl Dean announced yesterday that the grand opening celebration for the Music City Center will take place over two days: Sunday, May 19 and Monday, May 20. The grand opening will include a free open house for the community on both days that will feature live, local music, as well as a free street party and outdoor concert on May 20. Mayor Dean will present his State of Metro address at the Music City Center at 10 a.m. on May 20 as part of the grand opening festivities.

Details about the May 20 concert, including the lineup and headliner, will be announced in the coming weeks.

After nearly three years of construction, the Music City Center is only 6 months away from completion. Nashville's News Channel 5 visited to site to capture the latest project updates with a tour guided by Music City Center spokesperson, Holly McCall.

The historic, 1.2 Million square foot Music City Center is scheduled to open the first quarter of 2013 and will require an estimated 5,000 workers to complete the project.
