Numerous entries were submitted, and Bell & Associates Construction took home the 2010 South Central Construction "Best Of" Award for their work on the University of Memphis School of Law.
Awards were given based on entry criteria including safety, innovation, contribution to the community or industry, construction quality and craftsmanship, and function and aesthetic quality of design. The entries were sorted by project type. Each category had a “Best of” award winner and in some cases one or more Awards of Excellence and/or Awards of Merit. The School of Law was awarded "Best Of" in the Renovation and Restoration Category.
The annual competition recognizes construction and design excellence from Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi & Tennessee. Winners will be recognized during an awards luncheon on Thursday, December 9, 2010, at Auto Park Zone in Memphis, TN.
The University of Memphis School of Law project was completed in January 2010 and consisted of the renovation and remodeling of the Historic Federal Landmark building, located in the heart of downtown Memphis. The building was originally built in the 1880’s and once housed the U.S. Custom House, U.S. Post Office and Federal Courthouse. The current structure includes multiple renovations and building structures. The current renovation will include a law library, administration and faculty offices, a coffee shop, student lounge and a Barnes & Noble Law Bookstore, along with all new classrooms. The project total was $35,770,000.
